![]() ![]() The food: Steamed Fresh Shrimp Dumplings (Ha Jiao) This was surprisingly the best dish. The hits were great but limited, the misses were disappointing and abundant. It was good but I felt like it was missing the love. Tim Ho Wan is the cheapest Michelin starred restaurant and has become insanely popular over the past few years but truth be told, I felt like this was more new age dim sum or Americanized dim sum. Oh the famous Tim Ho Wan, I visited the location in Thailand and I thought it was just OK so I had to try a Hong Kong location to compare and it was pretty much the same. It just goes to show that having a Michelin rating doesn’t mean much. They only do some dishes well and I have highlighted them. You would assume that a restaurant with less menu items would excel at the ones that they do have on the menu, but not in this instance. So all in all, I’m not sure I really recommend this place. It was subtly sweet, which was really good. I ended up getting the Tonic Medlar and Petal Cake to end the meal. I couldn’t even lift it off the plate without it breaking up on me. You would think that something pan fried would have a good crust, but not this place. I had also ordered the Pan-Fried Turnip Cake. The beef had a really odd flavor and texture. The Steamed Rice with Beef and Egg was very bad as well. I ordered the Congee with Pork and Preserved Duck Egg and it was incredibly bland. Now to the stuff I don’t recommend: I do not recommend their congees. The buns have a crust, which isn’t common, but it works, and it works really well. I definitely recommend you order their famous BBQ Pork Buns and the BBQ Pork Vermicelli Rolls. This was my first time here, so I ordered a decent amount. We waited about 45 minutes to an hour, which gave us plenty of time to choose what we wanted to eat, before we were called in. ![]() You start by telling the employee at the front of the restaurant how many people you’re dining with and then you take a menu card and start selecting what you want before you enter. Coming here, there was an incredible line of people (mostly tourists) surrounding the door. ![]() I was honestly disappointed with my experience. I assumed that having the rating meant the food had to be amazing. I’ve heard tales of this place being the cheapest, most affordable Michelin rated restaurant in Hong Kong with good food. I honestly didn’t know what to expect when I came here. ![]()
